Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalm 27:14
We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. Psalm 33:20
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. Psalm 130:5
If I were to guess at one of the lessons that God is teaching me through the challenges He has put before me, I’d say that it is to learn to wait. I wait at the doctor’s office. I wait for test results. I wait for pain to lessen. I wait for a good day. I wait for answered prayers. Yes, God is teaching me how to wait.
I believe my role in this new life of mine is to take this lesson of waiting and apply it to my relationship with God. There are so many Scripture verses about waiting on God. I find much encouragement in them.
I admit there are times I get tired of waiting. I get discouraged. Sometimes I wonder if God has forgotten me. But when I go back to His word, I find promise after promise regarding waiting. (You might like to do a search with the word “wait” on an online Bible site such as BibleGateway.com!) My favorite is this:
And it shall be said in the day, Lo, this is our God: we gave waited for him, and he will save us; this is the Lord: we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation (Isaiah 25:9, NASB).
One day, there will be an end to the waiting. And His promises will be magnificently worth the wait.
Father God, Thank you yet again for your word and the promises you have made to those of us who believe. Teach us to wait with a confident hope, knowing that one day the need for waiting will be gone and we will rejoice in and with You. Amen and Amen. So be it, Lord!
