Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. Luke 12:7
One thing that writing this blog does for me is that it makes me look for encouraging things in my life to write about. Most everything becomes grist for the mill. I look at each day and think ..'How can this be used to encourage others?' It helps keep me positive.
I dwelt for so long in negativity. An abusive first marriage where verbal onslaughts were common seem to have started the ball rolling. Yet, if I am honest, I know it began long before that.
I've felt negatively about myself for as far back as I can remember.
I always felt, "Less than."
"Less than" led me to marry just about the first man that asked. Nevermind that I didn't really love him. He wanted to marry me. That was enough.
I struggled for years with these issues - always bombarding myself with negative comments.
It wasn't until I heard about a book "The Search for Significance" that I began to realize just where my significance came from.
Not from me.
Not from a man who would never, ever allow me to feel good about myself.
Not from a world that didn't really care if I existed or not.
The only place I could find significance - and the rightful place - was in God's eyes.
In Him I am a new creation. In Him I am renewed day-by-day. In Him, I find love. In Him I find worth.
Struggling with challenges tends to eat away at my feelings of self-worth. Now that I can no longer "do" - I must be content with simply being.
It is who I am before God that matters. And to make it easy - He spells out just how He feels about me in His word.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Father God, Thank you that, as we search Your word, we find just how much you love us and how valuable we are in Your eyes even with all of the challenges we might face. Strengthen us in Your love. Amen and amen.
