Renewed From the Inside Out

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.  (2 Corinthians 4:16, NASB)

Do I believe God takes care of us?  Yes.  Do I believe I have a role in taking care of myself?  Again – a resounding “Yes.”  Now I’m not talking about the daily physical things we need to do, though I know those are important.  Watching what I eat, getting the exercise I can, getting the rest I can (remembering my CPAP machine each night even though I don’t really like to wear it.)  What I am talking about is taking care of myself spiritually.  Am I praying each day?  Am I interceding for others?  Am I reading scripture?  Do I seek out the words of those who are wiser than I am?

One thing I do for myself is listen to music.  Music does so much to change my mood – lift up my spirits.  Am I spending time with God?  Am I thanking Him for all the things He does in my life?

It is so easy to get caught up in the negatives of life.  It is so easy to focus on the bad, on the seemingly unanswered prayers, on the bad parts of our life.  We can so easily drown out that small quiet voice that tells us He is with us.

I like to journal.  My journals are pretty much conversations with God.  In a way they are prayers, but I have a separate prayer list.  The journaling is more just spilling my thoughts to my best friend in a “Dear Diary” sort of way – except it is “Dear God.”

There are so many ways to take care of our spiritual life.  Why not take a few minutes and look at how you are taking care of your spirit.  You might find it makes all the difference in your day.

Father God, Thank You that coming to You is a choice we can make day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute.  Help us to remember how close You are and to seek You out throughout our day.  Amen and Amen, Lord.  So be it!
