One thing I do know: I was blind but now I see!" John 9: 24-25
I know that there have been times, particularly challenging times, when I feel there is nothing left to feel passionate about - as if every thing I once could see was gone.
Our challenges start to redefine who we are. Yet, passion can be reborn in different ways. But it is up to us to search for those ways. We still have to participants in our own lives.
We may continue to look at what has been taken away from us. Oh, how hard it is to dig inside for what is still there – and start to learn how to face a new life: Not facing it with resignation (How much time I spent there!), but facing it with a re-born passion for what we can still do.
Step by step, God opens doors and shows us how much there is left to do if - and I emphasize the “if” - we chose to remain faithful and work with what remains and stay open to new pathways.
Challenges are a true refining process. Sometimes we have a hard time getting over the things that are taken away and want them back. Yet, God moves us ever forward toward Him as we quiet ourselves and learn to listen to His voice.
It takes soul-searching time, self examination and honesty with oneself and with God. While this may not be the road we’d have taken – we can come to find that parts of our journey can be more rewarding that we ever dreamed.
Perhaps we are like that blind man, the one thing we can know is that we can begin to see God … and see Him clearer than we ever did before.
Father God, how we can rail against the challenges we face. Our losses can seem to immense. Our passions - gone. I pray that the divine spark that remains within each of us can be fanned into a flame of renewed passion - passion for You and for what we have yet to do in Your name. Amen and amen.
