I Believe

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.  John 1: 12-13

"I believe that for every drop of rain that falls ... a flower grows.

I believe that somewhere in the darkenest night  ... a candle glows.

I believe for everyone who goes astray ... someone will come to show the way.

The Question Is ...

When I reread older blog postings, I sometimes find one that fits better than one I could write today.  This is one of those times.

"You do not want to leave too, do you?" Jesus asked the Twelve. (John 6:67, NIV)

“Lord, I’ve been looking at the storms again.  I see the winds raging, the waves crashing. I see no shining sun, only dark threatening clouds.”

My mind rushes to the storms of the past as I remember the pain they held.

Cries in the Night

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV

Some moments, the fear takes over.

I wake startled - not sure if it was from my own cries for help or the rapid movement of my husband.

"Are you all right?" he says worriedly.

It takes me a moment to answer.

I've had another one of those dreams.  Dreams where I feel trapped in some odd situation and find myself trying to call out for help - but the words seem to come.  …

Why, Why, Why???

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so.  Romans 8: 7-8

“If your God is all-powerful, why did He let my child die?”  “Why are there horrible wars in the world?”  “Why doesn’t He heal my illnesses?” Why, why, why ...

As human beings we want answers to the tragedies of our lives.  …

Surviving the Deep End of the Pool

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  James 1:2-4

My grandson tends to over-estimate his abilities.  I remember when he was younger - maybe 7 or 8 - he went to a summer camp that had daily swimming lessons.

Embracing What We Have Left

Then I will make up to you for the years that the swarming locust has eater, the creeping locust, the stripping locust, and the gnawing locust. my great army which I sent among you  You will have plenty to eat and be satisfied and praise the name of the Lord your God who has dealt wondrously with you; then my people will never be put to shame.  Joel 2:25-26

It was an interesting conversation.

"You know, after Julie died - I wanted to die, too.  …
